“University extension, under the constitutional principle of the inseparability of teaching, research and extension, is an interdisciplinary educational, cultural, scientific and political process that promotes transformative interaction between universities and other sectors of society.”
Extension activities involve courses, events or projects coordinated by faculty and/or administrative staff from UFRJ's social body. The main target audience for these activities are members of the community outside UFRJ, which means that the focus of the activities is on meeting the demands of other sectors of society.
All extension actions, due to their academic training nature, have in their execution the effective participation of students regularly enrolled in training courses. University graduate of UFRJ and the desirable participation of students regularly enrolled in courses graduate or basic education at UFRJ, in order to provide them with the opportunity to experience the teaching-learning relationship through dialogue with the demands and problems of other sectors of society.
At UFRJ, extension actions are registered in the integrated academic management system (SIGA), duly assessed and indicated by the academic bodies (Units, Centers or equivalent) to which the proponent (coordinator) is linked and evaluated by the ad hoc committees of the Dean of Extension.
