The Compact Separator Laboratory was built to study compact air/liquid/liquid separation systems. A relevant difference between this proposal and existing research centers in Brazil on this subject is the application of instrumentation based on thermal anemometry (TA), laser Doppler anemometry (LDA) and particle image velocimetry (PIV) for the scientific and technological investigation of the problems of interest. These measurement techniques represent the state-of-the-art in fluid flow measurement, and are capable of characterizing global and local properties of complex flows. For this reason, they are particularly suitable for the investigation of compact separators.
