Como parte da celebração pelos 50 anos do Programa de Engenharia Mecânica, estamos programando a realização de um Minicurso, intitulado “Lectures on Soft Matter”, a ser ministrado pelo Prof. Masao Doi (Emeritus professor of Tokyo University and Nagoya University and Thousand Talents Program Professor of Beihang University).

Preliminary lecture plan:

09/11: Rubber: theory of hyper elasticity

10/11: Gel: solid/fluid composite, ionic gels

11/11: Onsager principle: a general principle in soft matter dynamics

12/11: Gel dynamics: stress-diffusion coupling, electro responsive gels

LOCAL: Auditório Luiz Carlos Martins (sala I-241), do Programa de Engenharia Mecânica da COPPE/UFRJ, CT, Ilha do Fundão.

ABSTRACTSoft matter includes various materials, such as polymers, colloids, surfactants, rubbers and gels. This class of materials exhibits complex behavior that can be understood in terms of physics. The purpose of this lecture series is to discuss such general principles (the principles in mechanics and thermodynamics and irreversible thermodynamics) which are useful in understanding the complex behavior of soft matter. Emphasis will be placed on rubber and gels.

This short course on the principles of soft matter physics will be given    by Prof. Masao Doi. The lectures will be based on his recent textbook -”Soft Matter Physics”, Oxford University Press (2013).

The lectures are open to M.Sc. students, Ph.D. students and other interested persons. For further information and registration send e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots.
