Abstract : Many genes and molecules drive tissue patterning during organogenesis and tissue regeneration. However, we still lack a full understanding of how these chemical and mechanical cues induce the formation of living tissues with their unique shapes and material properties. The talk will present some questions opened by the potentiality of stem or pluripotent cells in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The orchestration of their potentials still need designing new biomaterials and supportive scaffolds to guide or to inform cells in order to build up a functional tissue. These questions which are presently mainly addressed through empirical ways should benefit from the convergence of numeric modeling and mechanics. The talk will present how understanding, stimulating or mimicking elastic tissues are a necessary step for driving living cells towards tissue patterning.
