The Coppe/UFRJ scientific pitch competition challenges students, researchers, and professionals to present their projects in a clear, accessible, and engaging way.
Registration is now open for Coppe Explica 2026 , an initiative of Coppe/UFRJ that seeks to stimulate scientific communication and increase the visibility of research, projects, and solutions developed at the institution.
The contest presents a challenge: can you explain your research in a simple and interesting way to someone who is not an expert in your field?
The goal is to encourage participants to develop communication skills and transform technical content into presentations that clearly demonstrate the importance and impact of science and engineering on society.
Master's and doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers from Coppe programs, undergraduate students involved in Scientific Initiation (IC) programs, as well as technical staff and researchers working in the institution's laboratories and projects are eligible to participate.
How to participate
In the first stage, candidates must complete the registration form and submit:
- A brief project description, with up to 1.500 characters, highlighting context, objective, and relevance;
- a representative image of the work;
- A document proving your affiliation with Coppe.
The competition also requires the submission of a video of up to three minutes , in which the participant must present their project using simple, clear, and accessible language, avoiding technical jargon. The presentation should address the problem studied, the results, and the potential social impacts of the research.
The videos will be evaluated based on criteria such as clarity, impact, creativity, technical quality, and adherence to the established time limit.
Training in Scientific Communication
As part of the initiative, free training in Scientific Communication will be offered , open to both contest participants and other interested parties.
This activity will cover the creation of scientific pitches, techniques for making a presentation clearer and more engaging, and guidelines for recording and editing short videos using a cell phone.
For Coppe, developing the ability to communicate science is fundamental to bringing academic production closer to society, expanding the reach of research, and demonstrating how the knowledge produced at the university can contribute to addressing real challenges.
