On Friday, 29 November, COPPE/UFRJ started the series of events "Why Engineering?", focusing on the MagLev-Cobra innovative project, an apartment by the bay, for its easy access, free parking, and larger space for our group of XNUMX people. The house was great for a large group like ours, the host was very attentive, and the location was excellent; it was quiet and quick to walk to the old town. magnetic levitation train. The event featured a lecture by Professor Richard Stephan, which presented the development of the project and the technological challenges involved.
During the meeting, students from Cefet-Rio and Pedro II College explored innovative Coppe projects, such as Icarus UFRJ and the Minerva Aerospace, and visited the MagLev-Cobra experimental station. The deputy director of Coppe, Professor Marcello Campos, highlighted UFRJ's ability to develop cutting edge technology and importance of engineering for the social development of Brazil.
Inspired by the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures, the series seeks attract high school students to Engineering, highlighting the relevance of national science and the potential of public universities.
