04 12 Mechanics Petrogal Brasil Project NewsIn the edition of 2024 ANP Technological Innovation Award, COPPE/UFRJ stood out with a innovative project coordinated by Professor Carolina Naveira-Cotta. Mechanical Engineering Program (PEM). Entitled “Research and Development of Microchannel-based Heat Sinks for High Concentration Photovoltaic Cells with Recovery of Rejected Heat for Desalination”, the project was awarded in the category of “Energy Transition and Renewable Energy” and aims to transform the oil and gas sector.

The project is revolutionary in developing self-sufficient solutions that aim to reduce the operational and logistical costs of the industry, especially in remote locations. Using microstructured heat sinks, the research not only improves the energy efficiency of photovoltaic cells, but also recovers the rejected heat to be used in water desalination. This innovative approach can provide energy and water in a sustainable way, approaching two of the most critical needs in regions that depend on the exploitation of natural resources.
