03 07 MECANICA Areas Compact Separator Technology LaboratoryHome: 2000

Description: Teaching and research in manufacturing processes in the areas of micromachining and numerical control machining, friction stir welding, optimization in manufacturing processes, experimental analysis and modeling of the forces and torque involved in manufacturing processes. The Laboratory, linked to the Mechanical Engineering Program at COPPE and the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Polytechnic School, is used for practical activities by undergraduate and graduate students and for research activities.

Installations: The laboratory has a usable area of 200 square meters of refrigerated space, with machine tools for CNC machining, a vertical axis machining center, a CNC lathe and a turning center, micro-machining and additive manufacturing equipment, a thermal imaging camera (up to 2000°C), a digital benchtop roughness tester and an optical microscope. Additionally, the laboratory has instrumentation for experimental activities consisting of a piezoelectric dynamometer for measuring forces in three axes (up to 20 kN) and torque (200 Nm), a piezoelectric dynamometer for measuring micro-milling forces with loads up to 200 N, and a data acquisition system.
Laboratory Coordinator: Karen Johanna Quintana Cuellar
